No Running or Walking in the Rain

Something I noticed this morning as I looked out the window when preparing for my first thing walk. That since it was raining, I had quickly decided not to walk. Snow doesn’t really bother me, cold and heat don’t either, but walking or now that I think about it running in the rain, is something that I choose not to do most of the time.

Why?

I have a nice rain jacket and gear that works just fine out there, so that isn’t the problem.

I believe that as I have gotten older (and I’ve seen it in my wife as well) that I just do not enjoy wandering with my feet feeling miserable after failing to navigate puddles or needing to wander through wet grass. That not being able to see things becomes a major problem, because when it rains my glasses turn rather useless and I am pretty much blind without them. Yeah, I’ve been told wear a hat with a bill — it doesn’t work all that well.

Then having to change when I get back to either throw the clothes in the dryer if I am walking or fighting hypothermia if the temps are in the 40’s or below and I didn’t dress appropriately. Those are some of the rationales that I tell myself.

Of course there is the actual tactile sensation of having wet clothes against my skin and usually up here, that means temps usually between 40-60*F which can be rather miserable. I guess as I get older, my wanting to feel the discomfort of wet clothes has gone down proportionally to the increase in the number of times I have circled the sun.

Oh well, it isn’t a major problem, but something that as I bounded effortlessly on the treadmill this morning (and I have a bridge to sell as well if you believe that) became one of those subjects that bubbled up to the surface and lingered around a bit.
