The hard part about establishing a new blog is the first 30 days.
This time was even worse than usual because I didn’t have any idea that I was going to create a new blog until it was already in place. Most of the time I take a few weeks to put together a plan for the blog, let it simmer for a while, pick it apart, do the research I need, and then start.
With this blog, it was all bass-ackwards.
It just sort of happened.
I had this site with my name in the URL, started to repurpose it for one thing and somehow it ended becoming my new focus blog. Since then I have been playing catch-up and working at setting it up the way I want it.
Unfortunately, doing this work on the blog after the fact, doesn’t give me as much time to think about the topics I want to really write about. Right now the process of setting up the blog is foremost in my mind, so I have been writing about that process. Mostly because it forces me to think about what I am doing and captures some of the frustrations that do occur.
However, no matter what blog I have created, I always end up finding there are things that I don’t like about the appearance, back-end stuff (even on WordPress.com sites), something doesn’t feel right or that what thought I was going to write about changes direction.
This blog has certainly been no exception.
The big change today is.
Site Name Change
After a lot of thinking, more than a little research, some soul searching and finding my WHY. I decided to change the site name of my blog away from Harold being Harold to:
Harold being Harold
My Well-Lived Life
Figuring out going back to Harold being Harold wasn’t difficult. It came down to me writing about what I want versus writing for a niche that I may fit, but is not why I am blogging. I belong in the Harold being Harold niche and that is where I need to stay.
My Well Lived Life Harold being Harold is the old-new name for my blog.
Why Change the Name Back?
My Well Lived Life had been this site’s title for only a couple of days and it just did not fit.
Harold being Harold was a nice play on words and is about me writing about what I want to write, with occasional recaps of my wonderful Harold being Harold exploits.
Harold being Harold will be about all those things that I do that drive TheWife crazy, yet I somehow manage to escape relatively unmaimed, although some of them have made me wonder if I will make it another year around the sun. They are something that I can look back on as a learning experience or adventure and laugh with TheWife, and you about.
Plus I have a story to share and My Well Lived Life began to feel too much like a guy trying to become a pro blogger, which is not the direction I want to go or where I want to be a year from now.
After I read the book Start With Why and I figured out the WHY,
If my WHY is to inspire others with my story, it isn’t about me having a generic site name or title. It about sharing my story and yes, some of that will be about me doing stupid stuff. My Start Here page has more on the WHY as well. My misadventures can be entertaining, and they will continue to be a part of the blog, but the story I need to tell is about what I learn and how I incorporate it into my life.
Thus the name change back to Harold being Harold.
What did I learn this time?
When I first re-started this blog I didn’t foresee it becoming the focus for my writing, with my running taking a backseat. I didn’t realize how much I wanted and yes, needed to begin writing about more than just running again.
That the site name does make a difference in how I see my blogging/writing on a site. The name of a blog is important and gives potential readers a quick first glance at what your site is about. For me at least, it makes me stay more focused on what I want to write about on my blog.
Changing the site’s name to My Well-Lived Life was not one of those knee jerk reactions that I used to do so often, but it was a mistake. This one was short-live and easily corrected, which was nice for a change.
In a situation like this, it is better to make the changes sooner than later and get it over with. So I have decided to go ahead and do it. Besides Google, Bing and other search engines will like me better in the long run.
Welcome to Harold being Harold – again – and as it should be.
