A Nice Recovery Run & Critters – MT WK4 D3

After last night’s trail run, I won’t really call it a race although I ran with other runners. 😉 Although I gotta admit that I was still a bit more sore than I expected. My left quad/knee were a bit sore, but the right upper calf and below the knee still is more sore than I want, along with my right hip issue which is not getting any better.

When we were coming out of the house for Bennie’s long walk this morning, this critter was lounging at the end of the front step. Thankfully, I saw it before I stepped down, otherwise I might have done one of those four foot leaps in the air.

No, I am not a fan of any kind of snake.

On Bennie’s long walk yesterday down on the ledges we saw four chickens wandering around. We kind of thought that some probably dropped them off down-back either because they were not laying anymore or were just developing combs and were overly aggressive. It turned out that they were just developing combs, but were not all that aggressive, just very skittish. When we walked back down there this morning they were still there, so they were a drop off to survive in the wild.

Neither one of us were too keen about that, so this morning we tried to get them to go in the dog crate by having some cracked corn to attract them. I didn’t try to chase or catch them, while they were comfortable with humans around them, I wasn’t gonna grab them and get pecked or scratched – chickens ain’t nice when riled up.

The dog crate almost worked a few times, but in the end we just gave up and will see if they are still there tomorrow. If they are, we will call animal control and let them deal with the issue.

Back to running – the left quad/knee discomfort went away after touching it up with the buffer and didn’t bother again. Unfortunately, the right upper calf even after stretching, buffing and rubbing with Blue Emu, it is still sore to just walk on, which is not a good thing. It is nothing serious, but if it feels the same tomorrow, I will not be doing a long run.

I did run a 10K this morning – it was a recovery run so I was able to run comfortably. Although just before I got to the first mile, I had to stop and rub the right calf for a bit. Once I did that it seemed to calm down enough that I was able to keep running. I didn’t attempt to pick up the pace or anything, I just ran comfortably.

Although I probably should have only run 5.0 miles today. It was sunny and over 80*F, so I was wilting fast on the way back down Tiffany. That last 1/2 mile going up Stevens Hill took everything out of me and just was not fun and I ended up walking a couple of times. Today’s run became more of a 5.0 miler, with a 1.0 mile cool-down.

I have pretty much come to a couple of decision points and based on how the body is feeling this week and think that I have made my decisions. However, I would like to get in my long run tomorrow to know for sure what direction I will be going with my running the rest of this summer. If due to the amount of rain we are expected to get, I might delay the long run to Friday and have tomorrow be a rest day.

In other news I was playing around with my old ASUS laptop that died last November and got it to boot up. I reinstalled the Elementary Linux OS, because there was a fatal error in the boot cycle that was causing many of my problems with the laptop. Although I do think that there is also an issue on the motherboard, when it get hot and pops off.

I had forgotten how much work setting up a computer is after using my iPad for the last seven months. It is working for now and I even got Never Winter Nights 2 up and running and am having fun with it.

A pretty good day, where critters got more of the photo time and a few decision are a lot closer to being made for me about my running.
