Another absolutely gorgeous summer day!
If I had run at 6:30 AM, instead of walking Bennie, it would have been a great day for a run, but alas running first thing in the morning, just isn’t part of the routine for me. I prefer to do a morning routine, eat breakfast, do the clean-up and yes, do that morning constitutional thing before I head out the door between 8:30 and 9:00.
It just works for me.
Now that I don’t have the time factor of “having to” be somewhere at a certain time, I have added my prehab/stretching basics back into my daily routine. Nothing earth shattering, but I am noticing that my legs don’t seem as sore as they did when I wasn’t doing them.
By the time I got going just before 9:00 AM, it was already up to 70*F, with over 60% humidity, but there was a nice breeze, which felt great. I thought about doing a little tempo work, but wasn’t sure how everything would hold together and since I was pretty sure that I would wilt in the heat/humidity
So instead I decided to go out a little faster than usual (nothing spectacular), but I hit the first mile in 8:04 and mile two at 16:31, then I started to wilt and while I maintained a steady effort level, I definitely slowed down – a lot.
I did use the counting to maintain a steadier pace when things started to get tougher to take my mind off the discomfort and focus more on keeping my arse going along. It worked better than some other methods I have tried in the past.
Overall, I was happy with the run and despite the heat/humidity which caused my cap to rain sweat and even set a new course record for the Notta Road O/B for this year. So I might be getting back in a little better shape.
