Twenty-one years ago, I retired from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Which means that I have now been retired longer than I was on active duty. It is not really a big deal or anything of consequence to most, but to me it is one of those achievements that I tend to notice.
I am one of the lucky ones, there are many military retirees that did not live that long after they retire, so it marks a small check mark on the life balance sheet.
It is another one of those signs of getting older that I seem to keep creeping up to or is it crashing into. Whichever it is, I hope there are many, many more of these signs as I keep moving forward towards the end of my time here.
May that time be many years in the future and that the future will be as good as the last 21 years have been.
