2017 – What Do I Want?

img_20170102_143029238Let’s be real, I ain’t gonna change how the Country will be run, who runs it and all that other stuff – those things are beyond my pay grade and to be honest beyond my ability to make much of a difference, other than to be another voice out in the wilderness.

So let’s look at things that I have some influence over.

This is also the year that I turn 60, yeah one of those birthdays. In August I join a new age group and I really want to see it happen. It shows that I am still getting older, maybe a little wiser (well sometimes) and have been given the chance to keep living – something I consider pretty important.

Running

Let’s start with what I blog mostly about – my running. My goals are pretty simple in 2017.

  • Run 1,800 miles between January 1st and December 31, 2017.
  • Run at least one half marathon
  • Run a sub 22:00 minute 5K
  • Run a sub 6:00 mile

That’s it, everything else is gravy.

Not totally unrealistic goals, but ones that I will have to work hard to accomplish at 60, with a full-time job.

Yeah, I get the opportunity to set a lot of PR’s starting in August, since I reset them every 5 years (more on that in another post). I have a feeling that some of them will hold up for a while, since aging does tend to make it more difficult each year to break those records from the previous year(s) at this point in my life.

 Health

Weigh less than 150 pounds by 12/31/17

Average over 10,000 steps per day for 2017 – that being active thing.

Work

Now that I am full-time, keep working, until I get tired of it.

Life

Last and most importantly – enjoy the life that I have and the people who I am lucky enough to share it with.

Not a fancy list of Resolutions, just a short list of things that I want to do this year, some are measurable, others holistic and when you look at it, pretty much sums up who I am and what I consider important.
