AVR Week In Review 12/25/11

Merry Christmas and to those of you who have next week off, I hope that you do lots of resting, recuperating and running. This last week was hectic as we ramped up to Christmas, getting trees, last-minute shopping done, wrapping presents and all the other things are associated with the Holiday season.

Running This Week
Sunday’s run was the slowest, but it was the best, because I had eaten too, much, had too many deserts and really didn’t feel like running at all – but I did, it was my gift to myself today. Plus there was over an inch of flurry on the ground which made for some tricky turns and interesting footing the whole way.
I did what I set out to do this week and didn’t go very much over 3.0 as my long runs, 3.5 was the furthest I ran this week and the knee didn’t seem to bother nearly as much. Also not trying to run as fast seemed to help.
This week in a word: Better
Weight
I am still on a plateau this week spending most of it bouncing between 172 and 174, but unlike Christmas’ past, I haven’t gained those 5 pounds, so it is a win-win so far.
Injuries
The right knee is not complaining nearly as much as it was last Sunday, which is a good thing. I was really trying to do much – much too fast for my current condition. The lower back is still a little sore, but better than it was a couple of weeks ago.
Shoes
I ran in my Saucony Peregrines all but one day and they are still doing great. I did run in my Brooks Ravenna that I finally found in the front closet – they seem smaller and don’t promote forefoot running like the Peregrines, but are still comfortable and I plan to use them as my alternate shoes on those days when the weather cooperates and it is clear on the roads.

I tried video blogging (vlogging) for a 6 and 10, to take myself out my comfort zone and to let everyone see me, not just a still photo. I really think that it helps people identify with how you write if they see how you talk and have a voice to put with the words you put on your blog. It still is a little intimidating to do a vlog, because the whole world gets to see the real you and you never seem to sound as smooth or polished as others do (at least in your mind).
I can see some really cool things that I do want to try with vlogging as I get better with it, who knows it might just become a regular part of my blogging – just not right away.I do not (usually) intentionally promote any of my Running Log entries on Twitter, Google+ or Facebook, they are signified by a date after the title, unless there is a specific reason. Those posts are generally just for me to look back on to try to figure out where I have gone wrong in my training or what has gone well. I like having my training log here, it keeps me publicly accountable, whether I am running or not – anyone can see the log.
Of course you are more than welcome to look at them also and if you see anything that raises a flag to you about my running, please comment to give me a heads-up
