RunLog 12/5/11 – Bond Brook Exploration

For my Sunday trail run, I thought I would go down to the new Bond Brook Recreational Area in Augusta, (yes Maine – not Georgia) and see what it looked like.

Of course I had to do things differently, instead of going to the trail head at Mt. Hope Cemetary, I used the Bond Brook access. When I got down to the trail from the parking area I came across this.

The trail was closed and being the good little boy scout that I am I didn’t go up the trail, (sure was tempted though!). So instead I explored along the 4 wheeler trail along Bond Brook in both directions which cgave me about 2.0 miles for my running. Here are pictures of what I saw.

Turned around here, part of the gray area on the map where they are creating new
trails, good place to turn/break an ankle, discretion is the better part of valor.

The footing on the trails here was very slick and frost covered. We had a heavy frost last night and even the roads were slick, so I just took my time and ran slowly, picking which track I wanted to take through obstacles, while I was exploring.

While I didn’t get to run on the Bond Brook trails, I did get to see where the parking area is and I have a feeling that in a couple of years this will be a great place to go trail running and is only about 10 miles from the house.

Even though I had run about 2.0 miles, I wanted to do a little more, so as I was leaving Bond Brook I decided to go up and do UMA.
