Today I was on my feet most of the day, cleaning the garage and mowing the lawn and didn’t get finished until 4:30 P.M. I DIDN’T WANT TO DO ANYTHING BUT SIT DOWN AND DO NOTHING.
I initially told Mary that would run later in the evening, but thinking about it, I knew that if I didn’t run then, I would have a DNR in the log and I have worded so hard to just be able to run again that I didn’t want to let today go by.
So instead of sitting – after a couple of minutes, I went ahead got changed and put on my shoes and went out the door.
My legs were toast, from all the squatting and lifting and moving stuff, to the constant motion of mowing the lawn. So I just went out slowly and comfortably, not trying to rush anything, but putting one foot in front of the other. I am glad that I did, it felt good and I was able to run just a second slower than yesterday without trying. The knee, despite everything I did today, didn’t feel too bad at all and I notice that I am starting to stride for longer periods with less discomfort.
I feel that I am starting, just starting to get back in shape. Not the shape that I will be a few months from now, but starting to feel a lot better and do more than I have in a long time.
While I was still teaching I would fall asleep when I got home and had to be woken up for supper. Heck I didn’t even fall asleep when sitting in my chair while waiting for supper, which is a great progress.
I have started using a Google Spreadsheet to keep track of my running totals. It is just easier, I will have to do something about the average pace field, but otherwise it gives a pretty good summary of my progress so far.
